THE TREE'S FRIENDS
Documentary - Spain/Cuba
The Tree's Friends tells the remarkable story of Ada Boligán and Miguel Arizola - a couple living in Santiago de las Vegas, Cuba, who despite both suffering serious disabilities, have forged a symbiotic and productive relationship. Miguel is blind and Ada is unable to walk, yet they are able to run a small business making mattresses. Their work is made possible through Miguel's ingenious, hand-built motorcycle that he operates, and Ada steers as they visit their customers.
Their resilience, resourcefulness and inexhaustible good humour serves as a metaphor for the day-to-day lives of many ordinary Cubans as they struggle to deal with difficult circumstances.
